PEBReady · Prepare for certification

Find the information. Prepare for the visit.

Find and check an existing certificate

Start with the information available

Look for the certificate or number in your purchase file, your records or documents from the previous owner. For several units, keep references and addresses separate.

Choose the appropriate check

The official register supports searches by address or reference. A declaration or filename in PEBReady is not that check. If the document or the unit it covers is unclear, ask the certifier who issued it for clarification.

If you cannot find it

Use the official guidance below and gather known references and the precise address when asking for help. An incomplete search does not become a conclusion here that you must buy another certificate. You can continue preparing.

Open the official PEB certificate register

Search by address or reference, then check that the information relates to the correct unit. PEBReady does not search the register for you or confirm the certificate’s status.

Prepare evidence and access

Gather what you have

Plans, invoices and technical information about insulation, glazing and heating may help the certifier examine the property’s characteristics. Keep documents as supplied and identify the unit or work they concern. The professional assesses their relevance; no rating is guaranteed.

Look for useful evidence without blocking your journey

Check your records. You can ask the contractor who did the work for copies or, in a co-owned building, ask the building manager. Mark missing or unknown documents honestly. Do not describe something that may exist as already received.

Arrange relevant access

Consider keys and access to the home. Where shared equipment is relevant, clarify boiler-room and meter access with the responsible person. A shared address does not prove that every unit has the same access arrangements. This preparation does not book a visit.

You can print your own result and use it to draft a message asking for documents.
